Isn't she such a beautiful doll? This is Violet.Alexis discovered Life of Faith books a few years ago. Shortly thereafter, we discovered the sweet dolls. They are similar to American Girl dolls and have books that tell their life stories....based on their 'life of faith' and their Christian heritage.
The original books were written many, many years ago by Martha Finley. In recent years, they have re-written the book..taking out the thee and thou words...kind of like a 'new' translation which is much easier to read. You can actually get either translation at your public library. We tried both translations to see what we liked best and the newer version was more enjoyable for Alexis to read. Some girls like the older version because it is the original.
After she got hooked on the books, she continued to ask for the beautiful Violet doll. Several years ago, she finally got Violet for Christmas. Sadly, she doesn't play with dolls anymore at age 15 1/2 (and studying for her drivers tests), but both of us still love dolls. I'm sure Alaina will want to play with her when she is older and she will love the books as much as Alexis and I have.
Taken from the Life of Faith site...
Based on characters from classic Christian literature by Martha Finley, this top quality 18 3/4" faith-based, all-vinyl designer play doll comes dressed in her favorite black and white striped morning dress with coordinating ruffles, a black and white hair bow, white shoes with black embroidery, white stockings and her miniature black Bible. The doll features Violet’s signature straight dark hair, thoughtful brown eyes, and Southern belle charm. She is fully-jointed so she can sit, stand, and be posed in many positions. Reflecting her many virtues, Violet can even bow her head and put her hands together in prayer. This extraordinary doll will be a treasured companion that is passed down from generation to generation. Also available in the Violet Travilla doll line are over 20 fabulous outfits and accessories unique to the Victorian time period and life experiences of Violet, as discovered in the A Life of Faith: Violet Travilla book series.
There are many other dolls with their life stories, too. We bought Alexis's Violet doll at Family Christian stores using a 30% coupon. The dolls are originally $99 so $30 off is a big savings.
The outfits are 50% off right now at Life of Faith and the hardback books are 40% off. I bought Alexis the whole 8 book Violet set at CBD. I'm not sure if they still have this special but I did check and the individual books are cheaper at the Life of Faith site or Family Christian stores.
If your little girl doesn't care for dolls, she will for sure love to read the books from your public library.
