Go, Upward, Go!!

This was our first year experiencing Upward and we have had so much fun. Alaina has enjoyed spending time with other little girls every week at practice. Half the practice time is learning new cheers and the other half hour is shared in a circle, sitting on the floor, learning about Jesus.Over 500 people enter the doors of the gymnasium every Saturday morning during basketball season. During half time, a message or devotion is shared and Truth is heard. Sometimes people won't enter a church building just because it's a church. Family and friends feel comfortable going to a ballgame, though. While there, they realize that 'church' is not so bad and actually they feel loved there...and most importantly, they hear the Good News.

A lot of love goes on behind the scenes as well. Many hurting families and hurting children need to know they are loved. The church bus drives to the local homeless shelter and brings the children to Upward practice and games. It brings tears to my eyes to see these precious children so happy. They need to be told they are loved and that God loves them.

My most favorite thing about Upward is the joy {and laughter} while watching the kids play basketball and the cheerleaders giving it their all. Nothing cuter than a little first grader trying to dribble the ball down the court.

We love, love, love Upward. Our kids have played basketball for years. My 3 oldest are playing right now. Our last game is Saturday so we are kind of sad about that. Wonderful program. Alaina is adorable and I like her short hair!

Hugs,
Robin
